What is Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin®?

Neurotoxin modulators, neuromodulators or neurotoxins, such as BOTOX®, Dysport®, Xeomin® are used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles caused by facial movement such as smiling, squinting (crow's feet), frowning (11's between eyebrows) and raising the eyebrows (forehead wrinkles). They work primarily by temporarily paralyzing the muscle under the affected area, thus preventing the muscle from contracting. The end result is smoother skin lasting up to four months. Younger clients have discovered early treatment can prevent the development of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead, and contribute to a radiant glow. Neuro toxins can also be used to treat individuals with concerns of excessive sweating on their pals, soles of feet and underarms. Individual results vary from client to client. Who is a good candidate for Botox or other neurotoxins?

Any healthy adult, male or female (who are not pregnant or nursing), wanting a more youthful appearance is a good candidate for Botox. Patients often mention they get comments about looking tired, angry or unapproachable because of frown lines between the brows. They want to look how they feel inside. Just because they look grumpy, mad, or sad while their face is at rest, doesn’t mean they are grumpy, mad or sad. Botox is not limited to just for making you look more youthful, but can help patients put forward a a better reflection of ther inner feelings outward that can add to confidence and positive feelings.

Not all wrinkles are alike. It may be hard to believe, not all wrinkles are bad. They help to highlight your facial features and give you unique characteristics. Without wrinkles, your face would be void of personality and expressiveness. Your face is unique to you, no one has one just like it, and the lines and curves of your face help to tell your story. However, we do understand that wrinkles can detract from your beauty and make you appear older than you actually are.

Dynamic wrinkles appear when expressing emotions, such as fear, worry, joy, sadness, or surprise. You will notice them when you smile, laugh, frown, cry, or during moments of deep concentration. Dynamic wrinkles fade as quickly as they appear. Once the emotion passes and your face goes blank, you will no longer see them. Common dynamic wrinkles include:

  • Frown Lines (between the eyebrows)

  • Forehead wrinkles

  • Crow’s Feet

  • Smile lines

Static wrinkles, however, remain on the face even after our facial muscles relax and tend to deepen with age. They are typically a source of frustration and can make someone in their 20s and 30s look older than their age. Examples of static wrinkles include lines at the corners of the mouth, across the cheeks, and along the neck.

As you age, collagen production declines and causes the skin to lose elasticity. As a result, dynamic wrinkles, such as smile lines around the nose and mouth will eventually become static wrinkles. Fine lines and wrinkles can be further emphasized by genetics, smoking, and a poor diet.

BOTOX® has been approved by the FDA for use in treating dynamic wrinkles. It has successfully been used on millions of people around the world for more than a decade. For this reason, BOTOX® has developed a reputation that is unmatched in the world of cosmetic procedures.

BOTOX® works the best for individuals who are between the ages of 18 and 65. If you are under 18, it is very unlikely that you have developed dynamic wrinkles that require the use of this product. If you have, there’s probably an underlying condition that needs to be observed by our medical professional.

To get the most out of BOTOX®, you have to understand what the product can do for you before you have the procedure performed. BOTOX® will not make you a different person. It will not make you look decades younger. It will minimize the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, thereby making you a better version of yourself. If you understand this going into the procedure, then you are probably a good candidate for BOTOX®.

You may not be a good candidate if:

  • You are allergic to any ingredient in Botox or another botulinum toxin product.

  • You have a skin infection at the planned site of injection.

  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding.

  • You have a muscle or nerve condition such as ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) or myasthenia gravis.

  • You have a severe illness or infection.

What are the benefits of Botox?

  • Botox enhances one's natural beauty - One of the most significant benefits of getting Botox treatment is that it is an easy way to enhance your natural beauty. Botox is used as an anti-aging treatment, as it is an easy way to lessen the appearance of wrinkles. This means that Botox injections can improve anything from severe forehead lines to frown lines and all parts in between. Because these areas are what people notice first when they meet you, getting Botox is an easy way to improve your appearance and make a better first impression.

  • Botox is a relatively Inexpensive Cosmetic Procedure - Botox treatments are also an inexpensive cosmetic procedure, especially when compared to surgical procedures or luxury skin care products. When you get Botox, it is measured in units, so you will typically pay about $12 to $16 per unit of Botox. Depending on your budget, you can choose to do more or less Botox to fit your needs. Botox can also save you money on other skin care procedures, like facials and different types of facial surgery or wrinkle treatments. It is easy to budget for and can save you money on more expensive treatments in the future.

  • Botox is a non-invasive and fast procedure - Botox injections are an excellent option for cosmetic procedures because they are non-invasive and fast. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes to perform, especially when working with a professional. A clinician will use a small needle to inject the Botox into specific areas of your face. Because Botox is a non-surgical procedure, it means that you will have less downtime with your appointment, and you can get in and out quickly. You can simply return to your normal activities right after your injections.

  • Botox gives quick results - Many people who want to improve their appearance quickly choose Botox because it provides quick results. Once you get your Botox injections, you will see results as early as the first week after your procedure. However, Botox continues to work for about 3 months after your injections. Typically, you will notice that your wrinkles and lines continually relax until you have your maximum results.

  • Botox enables customizable treatment options - Botox injections allows you to create customizable treatment options with your clinician. When you schedule a consultation with your clinician, you can discuss the areas of your face that concern you most and determine what spots you want to treat. You can also get as many or as few Botox injections as you want. This also means that you can fit your Botox treatments into your monthly budget. By discussing your end goal with a professional, you can find a treatment course that best fits your needs.

  • Botox can improve other health conditions - In addition to improving your physical appearance, Botox injections can also improve many other health conditions. For example, many people suffer from TMJ or other types of muscle pain, get Botox injections to help them relax these muscles. Botox injections are even used to treat chronic migraines and other chronic health issues. Because Botox blocks nerve activity in your muscles, it can prevent unnecessary muscle use as well. People who suffer from severe underarm sweating, urinary incontinence, or even an overactive bladder can benefit from getting Botox injections.

How does Botox and other neurotoxins work?

Muscles can be relaxed with neurotoxins, resulting in diminished wrinkles and frown lines creating a softer appearance. All people use facial muscles on a daily basis – smiling, frowning and squinting. It is expected for lines to form naturally. Botox works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles which reduces muscle activity that causes persistent lines to form.

What should I expect before and after Botox or other neurotoxins?

  • A licensed clinician usually does Botox injections. Your appointment should last less than 15 minutes.

  • Your clinician may use a cold pack or anesthetic cream to numb the areas to be injected. A tiny needle will be used to inject the Botox into the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. The number of injections you receive will depend on the severity of your wrinkles and their location on your face.

  • There is no recovery time with Botox injections. You can return to your normal activities right away. Avoid rubbing the areas that were injected as it could cause the botulinum toxin to migrate to other areas of your face, causing temporary facial weakness or dropping. Slight bruising may occur at the injection sites.

  • Most people see results within a few days, but it may take up to a week to see the full effect. Botox usually lasts about three to four months. More injections are necessary to maintain your results.
