What is Collagen Induction Therapy?

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a minimally invasive, non-ablative treatment that helps repair fine lines, wrinkles, scars, including acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and uneven skin texture. CIT treatment introduces near microscopic needles mounted on a hand held tool that places 100's of tiny holes in the skin. These tiny wounds signal the body to begin healing. Two important proteins included in the healing process include collagen and elastin. Collagen Induction Therapy can be used on the face, neck and décolletage.

What are the benefits of Collagen Induction Therapy?

Collagen induction therapy (CIT) with Skin Pen offers several benefits for the skin:

  1. Stimulates Collagen Production: The micro-injuries created by Skin Pen stimulate the skin's natural healing response, leading to increased collagen and elastin production. This helps improve skin firmness, elasticity, and overall texture.

  2. Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: CIT with Skin Pen can help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by promoting collagen remodeling and smoothing the skin's surface.

  3. Improves Scars: Skin Pen can help improve the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and other types of scars by promoting collagen production and remodeling the skin's surface.

  4. Evens Skin Tone: CIT with Skin Pen can help reduce hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and uneven skin tone by encouraging cell turnover and the growth of new, healthy skin cells.

  5. Reduces Pore Size: Skin Pen can help minimize the appearance of enlarged pores by stimulating collagen production and tightening the skin's surface.

  6. Enhances Product Absorption: Following CIT with Skin Pen, the skin's ability to absorb topical skincare products is enhanced, allowing for better penetration of active ingredients and maximizing their effectiveness.

  7. Minimal Downtime: CIT with Skin Pen is minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime. Most individuals can resume their regular activities immediately following treatment.

  8. Safe for Most Skin Types: Skin Pen is safe for use on most skin types and colors, including sensitive skin.

Overall, collagen induction therapy with Skin Pen can help rejuvenate the skin, improve its texture and appearance, and promote a more youthful complexion.

Frequently Asked Questions about Collagen Induction Therapy

What should I expect before and after Collagen Induction Therapy?

Once you arrive, your clinician will numb the specific area with a topical anesthetic.

When you are numb (about 45 minutes later), the clinician will prepare the collagen induction therapy tool, a pen-like instrument that houses the microneedles. She will evenly roll this tool over your skin, creating the micro-injuries. After the approximately thirty-minute procedure, your clinician may administer a topical cream that will calm a bit of the inflammation. Depending on the severity of your scarring, the clinician may recommend that you have several follow up procedures.

Recovery time is minimal after the procedure and most people need very little downtime, if at all. You may notice some skin irritation and redness within the first few days after your procedure but you can go back to work or school if you feel comfortable. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun so wearing sunscreen is strongly advised.

Depending on the area of your skin being treated, the number of treatments you may need will vary. Typically, you can begin to see improvements two to four weeks after your treatment session. If you have deep scarring or wrinkles, you may need additional treatment sessions spaced 4 weeks apart in order to obtain optimal results.

How does Collagen Induction Therapy work?

Believe it or not, collagen induction therapy works by essentially injuring the skin. The continuous pinpricks create a series of small wounds triggering the body’s natural response of creating new tissue that is heavy in collagen. You can think of it like regrowing a new, firmer, more even-toned skin.
